Our residents' and fellows' publications and presentations


Surgical education and the training of medical students, residents, fellows and physicians in practice is an integral piece of our division’s academic endeavors. We strive as group to cultivate those individuals with a passion for surgery, through one on one teaching opportunities, educational course series options and hands-on instruction in clinical and laboratory settings. Our Vascular Surgery residents and fellows have developed impressive clinical publications and presentations.

List of Accomplishments in Research (July 2017-2018)

  • Kent KC, Guo L-W, Gong SQ, Shi XD, Chen GJ. Perivascular drug delivery system. (P160359US01, USSN: 62/375387) (All inventors are equal contributors) Patent application was filed on Aug 15, 2017.
  • Dr. K. Craig Kent and Dr. Lian-Wang Guo received an Accelerator Award from the OSU Technology Commercialization Office (funded by the state of Ohio). These funds will be used to conduct large animal experiments that test the viability of a nanoparticle-based perivascular drug delivery system to prevent intimal hyperplasia following open vascular surgery. Dr. Kent and Dr. Guo are co-inventors of this technology along with Dr. Shaoqin Gong at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
  • Division faculty and fellows published a total of 141 scholarly articles, abstracts, posters, chapter, and presentations.

List of Accomplishments in Clinical Care (July 2017-2018)

  • Faculty members in the division performed estimated 1,945 surgical procedures and 7,878 outpatient clinic visits
  • Vascular Surgery Physicians achieved a Patient Satisfaction Survey score in the 99th percentile in the second quarter; overall, patient satisfaction goal is 90th percentile nationwide.
  • Drs. Starr, Kent, Go and Vaccaro featured in Columbus Monthly August 2017 “Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly Top Doctors! Nominated by their colleagues, they were chosen based on not only their excellent training and clinical skills, but also because of the time, care and concern they give to their patients.

  • Controversies in Vascular Diseases (7th year) and Annual Noninvasive Vascular Symposium (10th year) two day event was held November 3-4, 2017 providing disease education to physicians, nurses, vascular technologists, residents, and students
  • Establishment of a Vascular Surgery Interest Group through the College of Medicine for students interested in vascular surgery
