Research Interests:

  • Lung virome and microbiome
  • Lung transplantation
  • Biobanking

Current Research: Different regions of the human body possess distinct microbiomes, and recently the lungs were proposed to harbor a microbiome as well. While most studies have focused on the bacterial microbiome, or bacteriome, I am interested in using omics technologies, in particular metagenomics, to study the lung virome and its interaction with other microbes and the host in the setting of pulmonary health and disease.

Currently, we are working on four projects:

  1. The role of the lung virome in lung transplantation outcomes
  2. Effects of smoking on the lung microenvironment
  3. A murine model of pulmonary inflammation and its impact on the lung microbiome
  4. Development of the OSU lung transplant biorepository and clinical database

Research Rechniques:

  • Biobanking
  • Research bronchoscopy
  • Next-generation sequencing
  • Bioinformatics
