About Me
I am a physician assistant on the myeloma team at The James, where we also treat patients with AL amyloidosis and other rare plasma cell dyscrasias. I received my master’s degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and have been working as a physician assistant for 16 years, recently joining The James in 2015.
I enjoy my role at the OSUCCC – James because I feel like we can actually make a difference in our patients’ lives, helping them to understand their disease and informing them how much progress is being made in myeloma research. All of our patients are special and deserve our utmost attention. Whether it’s a difficult situation or a time to celebrate, somebody needs to be there to provide support and encouragement. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to be that somebody.
I like making a difference in the lives of our patients and truly enjoy working with like-minded individuals whose number one concern is the care and well-being of our patients as we work hard to cure myeloma.

Barry was thoughtful in addressing our questions and educating us on the diagnosis and what to expect. We truly appreciated his patience and the time he gave us at the visit.
Barry does a nice job.
I have always received the undivided attention of Barry Hammer. He tells me what I need to know, and shows me my numbers, explains where I'm at in test.
Barry Hammer proves an excellent PA! He is knowledgeable, professional, patient & personable! I continue to trust his judgment on all questions I ask him... in person as well as on "MyChart". Busy, as well as their team members are a definite asset to the USA hematology team!
