I was a member of the Spine Oncology Study Group, a group of physicians developing guidelines for the management of spine tumors. I recently led a multidisciplinary team that pioneered a new surgical technique to protect the spine following surgery to remove bone tumors. Removing these tumors intact is challenging but very important for a successful surgery. This and other groundbreaking research at Ohio State is a key to better outcomes and longer lifespans for cancer patients.
My dedication to medical research led me to establish the first accredited complex and oncological spine fellowship program at Ohio State, which has received numerous academic grants of support. I’ve published mroe than 20 book chapters and more than 100 journal articles, contributed to numerous peer-reviewed reference works, and I regularly deliver presentations on spinal tumor-related topics, both nationally and internationally.

As of 03/25/2016, Dr. Mendel has reported financial relationships with the medical device, research and/or drug companies, etc. listed below.
