About Me

As a family physician and chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I specialize in comprehensive care of patients from birth through geriatrics. I have a particular interest in providing care to patients who are underserved or marginalized, which includes refugees and asylees from all over the world. I’m an international advocate for women’s health, adolescent health, minority health, prevention of illnesses for people across the lifespan and addressing the social determinants of health. I believe that health care is a right for all and not a privilege. I love to help patients feel better and understand how to take care of their illnesses or achieve wellness.

I’m also a health services researcher. My research interests are in applications of technology to increase access to care for underserved and disenfranchised populations, health systems reform, practice transformation, health information technology, primary care redesign, social determinants of health, health disparities and equity, primary care-social care partnerships, physician burnout, patient satisfaction and experience, maternal-child health, and minority, refugee and immigrant health. I have provided leadership in countries all over the world in health systems strengthening, technology-enhanced care, health policy and primary care restructuring. I also lead national efforts to empower and professionally develop minority women professionals across the country. I have published a number of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and four books. Many of my contributions have been critical in health services delivery or physician experience.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, playing with my children, running, gardening and traveling.
