I’m a board certified hematologist with expertise and extensive experience in the clinical development of novel therapeutics for patients with aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin (NHL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). I am a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine’s Division of Hematology. I’m also the Director of the Lymphoma Clinical Research Program. In 2014, I was rated in the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction.

I have extensive experience in the design, conduct, and publication of phase I-II trials, with focused interest in novel, targeted drug development in lymphomas. I have served as a principal investigator on several CTEP-sponsored phase I/II trials in patients with B-cell CLL andNHL. Through my participation on the Alliance Lymphoma Core Committee, I have had the opportunity to chair 3 national CALGB/Alliance/Intergroup studies in patients with NHL and HL. In addition, I have developed several investigator-initiated trials with industry support. I have been involved in several high impact pharmaceutical trials including trials with lenalidomide, ibrutinib, brentuximab, and idelalisib that have led to FDA approvals of several of these agents.

I have been awarded a National Cancer Institute K23 grant and R21 funding to support my early research, and I currently hold a NCI-sponsored K24 grant which fosters my current clinical research and mentoring activities in clinical research for patients with HL and NHL. I serve on the Lymphoma Research Foundation Scientific Advisory Board, the AllianceCo-Operative Group Lymphoma Committee, the American Society of Hematology Clinical Research Mentoring Program, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Panel. I developed and chaired the first two Lymphoma Research Foundation Clinical Research Mentoring Programs from 2013-2015.

I was drawn to the field of lymphoma due to the complexity of the clinical and pathological presentation of lymphoma, the variety of ages of patients affected by their diagnosis, and the wealth of new targeted therapies in development for lymphoid malignancies. I am grateful and excited to work on a daily basis with a fantastic lymphoma team that includes other faculty with lymphoma specific expertise, specialized hematopathologists, nurses and nurse practitioners, and a large group of specialized research staff whose daily priority is to make a difference in patients’ lives. I am inspired on a personal level by my husband, William Blum, also a physician at OSU with expertise in leukemia and stem cell transplant, and my three boys who always provide support, laughter and love, reminding me every day that the reason I strive to help all of my patients is so that they can continue to build a lifetime of memories within their own families.

Consulting and Related Relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 03/28/17, Dr. Blum has reported no financial relationships with medical device, research and/or drug companies.
