About Me
I am a hematologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of plasma cell disorders, such as multiple myeloma and amyloidosis. These disorders are intricately intertwined with the immune system and my research focus on harnessing the power of the human body’s immune system to treat and cure cancer.
Since early childhood, I was taught the importance of sincerity, hard work and paying it forward. The driving force for my career is taking good care of my patients as if they were my own family members and striving to provide them with the best care possible. My goal is to improve the standard of care in hematology through new, groundbreaking clinical trials and edge closer to a cure. I value being at a medical center where the sole focus is cancer care and all health care providers are skilled at taking care of cancer patients.
I am an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology at Ohio State, where I teach both residents and medical students, as well as a member of several organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer. My other role is as clinical investigator with a focus on research in the field of immunotherapy in multiple myeloma and amyloidosis. My research has been recognized nationally and internationally, and I was the recipient of the ASH Abstract Achievement Award multiple times.
What I enjoy most about the OSUCCC – James is being able to work with people who are as passionate as me about taking care of cancer patients. It is amazing to see how everyone comes together to fulfill the mission of the cancer center. There is a real collegial atmosphere that fosters collaboration and the advancement of health care and science, and it directly impacts our patients.

I have been very impressed with Dr Naresh Bumma during the years he has treated me. He discusses my condition with me, explains things clearly, and give me good advice.
Dr. Bumma does a wonderful job explaining treatment options and helping to inform me to make a better decision. He works very well with my local oncologist to determine overall treatment.
Dr Bumma is wonderful
Dr Bumma was very thorough and listened to all our concerns. Very patient as well.
Great Doctor! The best
Good
Dr. Bumma and his assistant, Crystal, are always very professional and informative. They are the best!!! Especially Dr. Bumma. I love him.
Very knowledgeable, compassionate
My provider has great skill and bedside manner. The team is excellent in the care they provide.
Always great.
Just a introductory visit...but all went as scheduled...without any problems. Especially liked the approach where the clinical nurse takes your vitals...and also does your blood work...all at the same time vs.going to another area (within the hospital) to have this done.
Dr. Bumma is the best.
