About Me

I am a medical oncologist who specializes in managing the treatment of patients with breast cancer. I serve as director of the BreastCARE Program in the Cancer and Aging Resiliency Clinic at the OSUCCC – James.

I joined the Division of Medical Oncology at The Ohio State University in 2016 after completing my fellowship training in hematology and oncology and in breast oncology at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve Medical Center in Cleveland. I also completed a geriatric medicine fellowship at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio.

My breast oncology fellowship training gave me extensive interdisciplinary experience in breast cancer assessment and treatment, including cancer genetics, imaging, prevention, surgical observation and radiation techniques. I have combined my clinical practice in breast medical oncology with my experience in breast genomics laboratory and clinical investigation.

As a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James, my research is focused on treating breast cancer and brain metastases from breast cancer. I am also involved in clinical trials investigating new treatments for breast cancer in the neoadjuvant, adjuvant and metastatic settings.

One study looks at how well fulvestrant and palbociclib work in treating older patients with breast cancer that responds to hormone treatment but cannot be removed by surgery. Since estrogen can cause the growth of estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer cells, hormone therapy using fulvestrant may fight estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer by blocking the use of estrogen by tumor cells, while palbociclib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. As a result, giving fulvestrant together with palbociclib may be an effective treatment for hormone-responsive breast cancer.

I have co-authored numerous publications in such peer-reviewed journals as International Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, and International Journal of Cancer. Additionally, I am a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
