Background: Dr. Slivka received his undergraduate degree from Bowling State University (Summa Cum Laude) and his medical degree from The Ohio State University in 1980. His internship was completed at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh and his residency was completed at The Ohio State University in 1984. Dr. Slivka’s other postgraduate training includes a fellowship in Cerebrovascular Disease at The New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center in New York.

In 1987, Dr. Slinka joined the Department of Neurology at The Ohio State University Medical Center, where he currently holds the title of professor. He is the recipient of multiple teaching awards.

Dr. Slivka is board certified in neurology (American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology) and vascular neurology (American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology). His clinical interest is cerebrovascular diseases. His primary research interest is acute stroke treatment, specifically in the use of intra-arterial thrombolytic therapy. Another topic of interest is in the genetic and hereditary aspects of stroke. He is actively involved as a principal investigator with a number of industry- and NIH- sponsored clinical trails relating to acute stroke treatment and secondary prevention of stroke.
