The Center for Autism Services and Transition (CAST), located at OSU Internal Medicine & Pediatrics at Hilliard, provides adult care for patients diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and support for those who are transitioning from pediatric to adult care. This primary care program of Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center is unique in central Ohio and rare nationwide.
Individuals with autism are a complex patient population with a wide range of medical, psychological, social and community needs. Many medical experts in the field of autism, such as developmental pediatricians, only treat children and teenagers. Experts in adult medicine, such as internists, may not have the experiences or resources to provide a similar level of care. The unfortunate result is that people with autism often disconnect from ongoing medical care in their late teens and early 20s.
At our Hilliard outpatient facility, a teen or adult with autism can access multiple services in a single setting. All physicians are skilled and experienced in providing comprehensive care for patients with autism and related, often complex, healthcare needs. Visits can be personalized to meet each patient’s needs.
