Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) includes extreme tiredness, even after resting. It limits ordinary activities. Identifying symptoms include severe fatigue for six months or more, and at least four of the following:

  • Feeling unwell for over 24 hours after physical activity
  • Muscle pain
  • Memory problems
  • Headaches
  • Pain in multiple joints
  • Sleep problems
  • Sore throat
  • Tender lymph nodes

Its cause is unknown and there are no diagnostic tests for CFS. It is more common in women. Although there is no cure, lifestyle changes, medication and careful management of activity may help.
