Gaurav Sharma photo croppedDr. Gaurav Sharma has more than ten years experience working at the interface of engineering and biology. His research focuses on the areas of blood brain barrier (BBB) engineering, nanomedicine and applications of brain computer interfaces for neuroprosthetics.

Dr. Sharma is Senior Research Scientist in the Medical Devices group at Battelle Memorial Institute. He is the lead investigator on the NeuroLife™ program and has provided scientific and technical leadership on projects involving pre-clinical studies with brain and spinal cord implants for recording and stimulation, development of advanced rehabilitation and assistive neurotechnologies, and developing peripheral nerve stimulation devices for applications in bioelectronic medicine. Dr. Sharma has many established collaborations with industrial/academic partners. Dr. Sharma’s team at Battelle has won the 2016 Editor’s Choice, Best Technology and Corporate Social Responsibility R&D 100 Awards, the 2016 Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award, the 2016 Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Best Project Award, and the 2016 Battelle President’s Award for extraordinary contribution to Battelle. He has received extra-mural funding from the NIH, DTRA, and the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to support his projects. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles including publications in top-tier journals (Nature, Scientific Reports, Journal of the American Chemical Society) and serves as a guest editor and reviewer for several high-ranking scientific journals.
