A Message from Our Chief Residents

Welcome! Greetings from the current PM&R Chief residents - Matt Dawson, Matt Fanous, and Becky Hayworth. You will learn a lot about our program from looking at our website, visiting to interview, or by completing a rotation in our department, but we want to tell you a little about life in Columbus.

Columbus is a great city to live in - residents will tell you it has big city amenities with a small town feel. What does that mean? The big town amenities mean we have everything from beautiful downtown theatres, multiple sports teams (Columbus Crew - soccer, Columbus Clippers - baseball, Columbus Blue Jackets –NHL Hockey, THE Ohio State Buckeyes), an active bar/nightlife scene, large venues to host concerts, and festivals almost every weekend. The small town feel means we have many different communities within the city, so no matter who you are or where you are from, you can find a place to call home. We have residents who live in Grandview, Upper Arlington, Dublin, Hilliard, Short North, German Village, the Arena District, and more! Whether you are single or married, with kids or without, we have a great mix of individuals in our program and our city.

Columbus is also great for the active person. We have many large parks, including Highbanks Metro Park with over 11 miles of trails. We also have multiple biking trails along the scenic Scioto and Olentangy Rivers. Residents also have become active in intramural sports - most recently volleyball and soccer. We have an active running community, and many golf courses. Or perhaps a good meal is more important to you? We have restaurants of every price and ethnicity, and several have been featured on national shows (shout out to Schmidt's Sausage Haus and their delicious cream puff featured on Man versus Food).

And don't forget about other benefits of living in Ohio! You are automatically grandfathered in to celebrating the Cleveland Cavaliers recent NBA championship win. We also have the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns (sorry), the Cincinnati Reds, and the Cincinnati Bengals. In Columbus, you are only about 2 hours from anywhere in the state.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions! And always remember, the correct response to a stranger yelling "O-H-!" at you is always a hearty "I-O-!"
