Our Approach

At Ohio State’s Early Psychosis Intervention Center (EPICENTER), there is no judgment attached to the experience or diagnosis of psychosis. Instead, emphasis is on early intervention and personalized, compassionate care.

An interdisciplinary team will work together with the patient and his or her support network to develop a treatment plan that is both effective and sustainable. This could include medication and behavior modification, as well as individual and/or group therapy. Equally important is support and education for the patient and the patient’s family and friends.

Again, early intervention is extremely important. Not only does it minimize symptoms and improve chances of full recovery, it also increases the likelihood that the patient will engage with treatment, decreases the potential need for psychiatric hospitalization, and protects relationships while minimizing the disruption to daily life.

If you suspect any level of psychosis, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment for a full assessment, potential diagnosis and personalized treatment that can make all the difference in your daily life.

Individualized Care

The EPICENTER tailors care to each individual. As such, we offer two distinct treatment paths with full access to all services listed above, if necessary.

Specialized services are designed for two types of patients:

  • those who have had at least a first-episode of psychosis
  • those showing the early warning signs of a burgeoning psychotic disorder – sometimes called clinical high risk for psychosis. For this group, Ohio State now offers step-based care for ages 12-25.
