About This Program


The Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Training Program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a one-year intensive clinical program designed to comply with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements. The fellowship also meets American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) requirements for board eligibility and certification in Transplant Hepatology.

Curriculum

The Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Training Program at Ohio State provides fellows with extensive inpatient and outpatient clinical experience as well as longitudinal didactic teaching. The program prepares fellows to:

  • Manage advanced liver disease
  • Be fully competent in transplant hepatology
  • Diagnose and manage complex hepatology issues

Inpatient Training

Inpatient Training

Fellows spend four months in inpatient Liver Transplantation Service. Responsibilities include:
  • Patient care
  • Performing procedures (including routine upper and lower endoscopy, and liver biopsy)
  • Assisting in educating and supervising house staff

Outpatient Training

Outpatient Traning

Fellows spend six months in supervised outpatient clinical activities in the Liver Transplant Clinic and the Liver Disease Consult Clinic. Fellows also participate in transplant observational activities and clinical research projects.

Research

Research

Fellows participate in a variety of ongoing or new clinical research projects related to liver disease or liver transplantation.
