WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER WINS ‘PARTNERSHIP IN LEADERSHIP’ AWARD
Four Ohio State Wexner Medical Center administrative leaders have been honored with the 2013 Association for Healthcare Foodservice (AHF) Partnership in Leadership Award. The four leaders who were honored are Julie Jones, director of nutrition services, MaryAngela Miller, administrative director of University Hospitals, Kent Hess, associate executive director and Randy Allen, financial administrator. This award was presented at the AHF Annual Conference in New Orleans on June 8, where Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center nutrition services and hospital administration were honored for their efforts in the 12 million dollar reinvention of nutrition services as part of the 1.2 billion medical expansion plan over eight years. This award is presented to AHF operator members who demonstrate a strong commitment to self-operation and currently support the foodservice administrative director. 

OSU FACULTY WINS 2013 LANGUAGE ACCESS CHAMPIONS AWARD
Milly Valverde, associate director of language services, has been recognized as a 2013 Language Access Champion by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC). Valverde, along with three other healthcare professionals were recognized at the seventh annual Membership Meeting of the NCIHC in Seattle. This award is given to honor a person, program or organization whose work has contributed to improving the lives of all people through the promotion of language access in healthcare. The NCHIC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and enhance language access in health care in the United States.

OSU CLINICAL PROFESSOR WINS SCHWEITZER LEADERSHIP AWARD

Dr. Patricia Gabbe, clinical professor of pediatrics, was honored with the Schweitzer Leadership Award from the Columbus-Athens Schweitzer Fellowship program at its annual Celebration of Service ceremony on May 1. In addition to working at the Wexner Medical Center, Gabbe is a team leader of the Ohio Better Birth Outcomes Project and the Ohio Collaborative to Prevent Infant Mortality. The Schweitzer Leadership Award honors individuals whose life examples have significantly mitigated the social determinants of health in their communities and whose commitments to service have influenced and inspired others.
