A Program Featuring a Vibrant and Innovative Group of Clinicians, Researchers and Clinical Scientists

  • Image Title
Our Pyschology Internship curriculum provides faculty mentoring in clinician-scientist values and practices.

The best fit for the Psychology Internship in The Ohio State University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health is someone interested in combining clinical and research work in their career. Our training emphasizes comprehensive assessment, inpatient consultation, outpatient psychotherapy, research, administration and teaching.

Because this internship is a new addition to our education and training programs within Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, we are not yet accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). However, we anticipate being granted "accredited on contingency" status after the 2015-2016 academic year, so that our first class of interns will graduate from an accredited program.

The faculty of the Division of Psychology is a vibrant and innovative group of clinicians, researchers and clinical scientists who are nationally renowned for their work and serve as excellent role models for our interns. In addition, we are an integral part of a large university medical center, where your training will expose you to our world-class hospitals and research facilities and support you with an annual stipend.

Our Psychology Internship curriculum provides:

  • Integration of clinical research and evidence-based practice
  • Meaningful experiences that prepare you for working as an integral part of an inter-professional healthcare team

  • Awareness and sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and health disparitie

  • Faculty mentoring in clinician-scientist values and practices

We invite you to apply.

From the Director: Cheryl Carmin, PhD

Welcome to The Ohio State University Neurological Institute and the OSU Wexner Medical Center, and an especially warm welcome to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.

At a time when psychology internship programs and placements are undergoing attrition, we are especially pleased to be developing a new internship with a focus on clinical health psychology. I believe this speaks to the support from our department chair, Dr. John Campo, and his vision of academic preeminence and a comprehensive system of behavioral health care that is committed to the public health, service integration, evidence-based practice and the delivery of value-based clinical services.

If you are not yet familiar with us, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is one of the largest academic medical centers in the country and the only academic health center in central Ohio. For more than 20 years, we have been consistently honored by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top hospitals in the country, with top-ranked specialty areas. Interns will find a wealth of resources to offer for both clinical and research experiences.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like an electronic copy of our Internship Handbook or have questions about the internship or application process.

Sincerely,

Professor Cheryl Carmin, PhD
