Research/Clinical Interests: autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities

Current Research Projects:
Inpatient Care for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental Disabilities: Dr Witwer has been studying admission trends for those with ID, and attitudes of those who care for individuals with ASD and DD in inpatient psychiatric hospitals.

Screening and Assessment in Young Children with Developmental Disabilities: Dr Witwer also has a line of research related to children (birth to 3) served in the Early Intervention System. 1) examining how we screen for autism spectrum disorders, as well as other social-emotional difficulties in this population and 2) working with the Early Intervention System to develop an assessment tool to track treatment goals.

Academic services: Dr. Witwer supervises psychology graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and provides training in the Nisonger Clinics. She is also a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities Program (LEND) faculty member.

Clinical Services: Dr. Witwer currently participates in an interdisciplinary team which assess children suspected of having and an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disability. She also conducts psychological evaluations and behavioral consultations with children with ASDs and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is the program director of the School-Aged Autism and Developmental Clinic.
