Our extensive program combines practical coursework and mentored clinical practice

Fellows will receive traditional didactic training in addition to one-on-one mentoring in the clinic by experienced faculty and staff. You’ll also participate in monthly journal club sessions, therapeutic dry needling training, grand rounds and various conferences and seminars to enhance your experience.

Program Basics

Structure

The Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) Fellowship is a 12-month program beginning in January and concluding the following December. Our comprehensive program includes clinical care at Ohio State Sports Medicine, mentorship with fellowship-trained clinicians, and teaching and research experience. The fellowship program is accredited through the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE).
Goals

The goal of the OMPT Fellowship is to develop subspecialty manual techniques and assessment skills consistent with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy’s (AAOMPT) Description of Advanced Specialty Practice. This is accomplished through guided mentored practice, teaching and research opportunities. This robust program integrates resources from our own Wexner Medical Center and an academic program personalized to each professional to enhance patient outcomes and develops leaders in the PT profession.
Duties and Responsibilities

The OPMT fellow will practice at the Ohio State Sports Medicine’s CarePoint Gahanna facility. A typical week in the fellowship program includes four hours of mentored practice, 30 hours of non-mentored practice, two hours of lab instruction and six to eight hours of other didactic work, including self-study. Additionally, fellows have teaching responsibilities within Ohio State’s entry-level physical therapy program that will strengthen skills and knowledge in OMPT.
