In Ohio, coaches and others who supervise or direct activities for students that involve athletics or other physical activity must hold a current Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit (also known as Pupil Activity Validation or PAV) issued by the Ohio Department of Education.

Ohio State Sports Medicine offers frequent Sports Medicine coaches workshops that are valid for three calendar years. At the workshops, our staff of Sports Medicine physicians, athletic trainers and physical therapists, as well as other professionals from The Ohio State University, speak on topics such as recognition and treatment of common sports injuries, emergency situations, injury prevention, strength training and conditioning and nutrition for the athlete.

Attendance is open to all coaches, athletic administrators and referees of all sports and levels. Special pricing may apply for those who are partnered with Ohio State according to their school or organizations’ sports medicine contract. CPR certification is available after the Coaches Workshops for a separate fee.

Workshop (plus current CPR certification*) satisfies requirements for the Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit. Coaches of all sports and levels are welcome to attend.

*CPR/AED certification is available separately after the workshop.
