Dr. Kinnamon’s scholarly interest lies in developing and applying statistical and bioinformatics approaches to understand the genetic basis of human disease. He currently provides statistical genetics, biostatistics, and informatics leadership for the Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) Research Project (https://dcmproject.com) studies conducted by the DCM Consortium, a group led by Dr. Ray Hershberger at The Ohio State University that includes investigators at 25 leading academic cardiovascular programs across the US. In this role, he has been a co-investigator on the NHLBI- and NHGRI-funded DCM Precision Medicine Study and a multiple principal investigator on two NHLBI R01 awards to collect advanced echocardiographic and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging data on this cohort. His recent publications have appeared in journals including JAMA, Circulation, and Circulation: Genomic and Precision Medicine.

Dr. Kinnamon has also invested substantial effort in building informatics infrastructure to support genetics research in the Division of Human Genetics. One major product of his efforts is a platform that provides integrated management of clinical, sample, and genomic data within the scalable and cost-effective high-performance computing environment at the Ohio Supercomputer Center. He also established the Human Genetics Research Informatics Core team that manages the daily operation of this platform and provides specialized programming and analysis support to meet the unique needs of genomics researchers in the division.
