The Department of Internal Medicine’s research mission is to promote and support bench to bedside research that will translate discoveries into new therapies, interventions, and programs that will result in better health care outcomes.

Mauricio Rojas, MD

Vice Chair for Research

Dr. Rojas’s early work included pioneering studies on bone-marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells as potential therapies, and more recently, he has focused on mesenchymal cell aging and senescence with the innovative incorporation of ex-vivo lung perfusion models to study the impact of therapeutic interventions on lung pathology.
