500th Heart TransplantPeter Lee, MD, led the surgery, assisted by Nahush Mokadam, MD, and many others from nursing, perfusion, anesthesiology, critical care and support staff teams. The patient’s cardiologist is Sakima Smith, MD.

Ohio State Wexner Medical Center’s first heart transplant took place in 1986. In the three decades that followed, we have completed transplants for patients from 63 of Ohio’s 88 counties and from as far away as California and Arizona. Six of our heart transplant patients have gone on to have a secondary heart transplant. Congratulations to the entire heart transplant team for this extraordinary accomplishment.
