Focused medical education
Developing the next generation of family physicians is a crucial mission for the Department of Family Medicine. It is not enough to simply recruit more medical students into the field. We must find the right students for the profession —students with “the heart of a family physician.” These altruistic medical students must come with a strong desire to understand and serve their patients and communities and to help them live healthier, happier lives. Ohio State has a strong tradition of family medicine education.
Family Medicine Residency Program
Our medical education continues to advance clinical knowledge and professional development. Residents in our Family Medicine Residency are exposed to innovative techniques on specialty rotations while enjoying the dedicated teaching of family medicine physicians on an "unopposed" inpatient service at a community hospital.
The Department of Family Medicine offers four fellowship programs – the Sports Medicine Fellowship, Clinical Informatics Fellowship, Primary Care Psychology Fellowship, and Integrative Medicine Fellowship.
Medical student educational programs
Our innovative MD curriculum, diverse learning environment, active Family Medicine Interest Group, Family Medicine Leadership Development Program and strong mentor program offer future medical students a truly dynamic and comprehensive setting in which to gain the knowledge to achieve academic and professional success and lead tomorrow's quest for advancing the quality of life around the globe.
