About Our Fellowships
The department provides fellowship educational experiences for individuals who desire to expand their areas of expertise in anticipation of full-time academic careers. These fellowships have ranged from total laboratory experiences learning basic research or, more recently, in clinical fellowships.
The clinical fellowships currently available in the department are in neurotology, head and neck oncology, skull base surgery, laryngology and pediatric otolaryngology at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The Allergy and Immunology Fellowship is at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital. The clinical fellowship programs represent an enhancement to the resident education as the clinical fellows act as faculty to support the resident educational experience. These programs have been designed for individuals seeking a full-time academic career with a focused area of expertise.
Allergy Immunology Fellowship
The Allergy Immunology (AI) Fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a two-year program administered through The Ohio State University College of Medicine. The program is designed to be in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) to ensure all individuals completing the two-year program will be eligible to sit for the board certified examination.
Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery Fellowship
The Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery Fellowship at The Ohio State University is designed for advanced complimentary training in head and neck oncologic surgery and conforms to the guidelines from the Joint Council for Approval of Advanced Training in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery.
The Neurotology Fellowship Program provides outstanding training in all aspects of the field. The fellow trains in neurotology as well as advanced and complicated otology cases. The fellowship aims to improve surgical skills, decision-making and critical thinking of the fellow.
Skull Base Surgery Fellowship
The Skull Base Surgery Fellowship at The Ohio State University offers advanced comprehensive training in skull base surgery. The fellowship is designed for those individuals who are planning a full-time academic career with a special interest and emphasis in skull base surgery.
Clinical fellows have the opportunity to work alongside speech language pathologists and participate in the Voice and Swallowing Clinic at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. There is an emphasis in surgical procedures including microlaryngoscopy, thyroplasty, injection laryngoplasty, tracheal reconstruction, Zenker’s diverticulectomy, cricopharyngeal myotomy and endoscopic treatments for laryngeal cancer.
The objective of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Otolaryngology Subspecialty Fellowship is to educate and train the next generation of pediatric otolaryngology’s interested in improving the clinical, surgical and basic science understanding of pediatric otolaryngology. Fellows will be a part of a team which includes social workers, surgeons, pediatric nurse practitioners, nurses and administrative staff.
