Ben Segal

Benjamin Segal, MD, will join Ohio State in July 2019 as chair of Ohio State’s Department of Neurology and co-director of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Neurological Institute.

 

Dr. Segal comes to Ohio State from the University of Michigan, home to one of the nation’s top neurology programs. There, he directed the Multiple Sclerosis Center and neuroimmunology program. Dr. Segal has also worked at the National Institutes of Health and University of Rochester.

 

“Ben Segal is an innovative leader who will further Ohio State’s reputation as a referral center for patients with complex neurological diseases and – together with other leaders – grow our neurology and neuroscience program to one of the top in the country,” says K. Craig Kent, MD, dean of Ohio State’s College of Medicine.

 

Dr. Segal will co-direct the Neurological Institute with neurosurgeon Russell Lonser, MD, who is chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery.

I am confident that, collectively, we have the vision and means to make the Neurological Institute an international leader."

 

Recognized worldwide for his work in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, Dr. Segal has directed a number of industry- and investigator-sponsored clinical trials that focus on individuals with relapsing and progressive forms of multiple sclerosis. His discoveries have contributed to the basic understanding of MS and similar diseases.

 

Dr. Segal earned his medical degree from Brown University, completed his internship in medicine at the University of Chicago and was recruited to the neurology residency at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
