Hand symposium group shot

Building upon our expertise in training future surgeons

In 2018, we launched the first Hand and Upper Extremity Symposium, a comprehensive course to enhance clinical knowledge in the management of difficult upper extremity fractures. The event was initially concepted from an assessment of the institutional, local and regional environment and how we might enhance the statewide exchange of ideas and information. We were pleased to welcome more than 100 participants from throughout the Midwest with lectures, question-and-answer sessions and case presentations on the latest research and interventions from a distinguished faculty of surgeons throughout Ohio.

The program continued in 2019 with a the goal of continuing to improve and enrich the graduate medical educational experience of our orthopaedic residents and fellows, as well as existing hand surgeons. Unfortunately, due to COVID, the symposium was cancelled in 2020. With the pandemic still ongoing, the 2021 symposium was successfully conducted as a Zoom webinar. The program for 2021 focused on managing and avoiding complications in hand and upper extremity surgery and featured key note speaker, Ryan Calfee, M.D., Msc from Washington University.

We are excited to return to an in-person event on May 20, 2022! The complete agenda will be posted here in mid-March, 2022.
