GabbeCOLUMBUS, Ohio – Dr. Steven Gabbe, CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and senior vice president for Health Sciences, has been given the 2014 Distinguished Service Award from The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). He received this award in recognition and appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the practice of obstetrics and gynecology in the area of diabetes in pregnant women.

Gabbe will be presented with this award at the ACOG’s Presidential Inauguration and Convocation on April 30 in Chicago. This annual award is given to outstanding individuals in OB-GYN who have made important contributions within The College and/or the discipline of OB-GYN in government, research, teaching, or direct patient care.

Dr. Gabbe is one of the world's leading experts on the complications of diabetes and pregnancy, the author of more than 160 peer-reviewed papers and senior editor of the leading textbook in his field, Obstetrics: Normal and Problem Pregnancies. He has held leadership positions with the Association of American Medical Colleges and National Institutes of Health, is co-chair of the Liaison Committee for Medical Education and is a member of the Institute of Medicine.

Steven Gabbe earned his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Princeton University and his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha honors from Cornell University Medical College. He was a medical intern at New York Hospital, a research fellow in reproductive medicine at Boston Hospital for Women and a research fellow in biological chemistry at Harvard Medical School before completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Boston Hospital for Women and a clinical fellowship in obstetrics and gynecology at Harvard Medical School.
