Harter named president of American Society of Anesthesiologists

Ronald Harter, MD, professor of anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, was named president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). He has served in numerous ASA roles over the past 30 years, including vice president and speaker of the ASA House of Delegates. He’s been an active member of the Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists since 1994 and was its president in 2003. 

Dodd Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital ranked No. 1 in Ohio by Newsweek for third year in a row

For the third year in a row, Newsweek has ranked The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Dodd Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital as the top physical medicine and rehabilitation center in Ohio. The rankings are a compilation of quality metrics data, accreditation data and a reputation score based on surveys of experts in rehabilitation centers such as physicians, physiotherapists, clinic managers and other health care professionals based on quality of care, services, follow-up care and accommodation and amenities. 

Ohio State advances health equity through NIDA Racial Equity Initiative

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has awarded a $798,616, two-year grant to The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Researchers will study how unequal neighborhood resources affect cognitive health and substance use among Latinx and Black youth. 

Marybel Gonzalez, PhD, associate professor in Ohio State’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, in collaboration with Paris Adkins-Jackson, PhD, assistant professor of epidemiology and sociomedical sciences at the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, leads this social determinants of health research project.

The grant is awarded through the NIDA Racial Equity Initiative, addressing racial and ethnic disparities within the field of addiction science. Launched in 2020, the initiative intends to award $100 million over 10 years to support health equity research and foster diversity within the addiction scientific workforce.

Amaya recipient of Health Enhancement Research Organization award

Megan Amaya, PhD, associate clinical professor, director of Health Promotion and Wellness and co-director of the Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness undergraduate program at The Ohio University College of Nursing, was one of five healthcare professionals honored nationally by the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO). Amaya received the Heart of HERO award for her advancement of workforce health and well-being. She leads a team that implements wellness strategies, programs and services for university students, faculty, staff and Ohioans. Amaya is president elect of the National Consortium for Building Healthy Academic Communities and member of several university and College of Nursing committees.

McVay, Exline receive Lifeline of Ohio Champion of Hope Awards

Lifeline of Ohio honored two clinical leaders at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for their roles in saving and healing lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Chelsea McVay, BSN, nurse manager of the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit, received the Nurse Champion Award for a variety of reasons, including her efforts to improve overall donation processes through innovative ideas. Matthew Exline, MD, pulmonologist and critical care physician and clinical professor of Internal Medicine, received the Physician Champion Award for his care and compassion with patients and families and efforts to streamline the donation process.
