About Me

I am a dermatologist with a primary focus on cutaneous oncology. As a Mohs micrographic surgeon, I specialize in the surgical removal of multiple types of skin cancer as well as post-surgical reconstruction. Since many skin cancers occur on cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face, I am very proud of the aesthetic outcomes we can achieve after surgery.

My other clinical area of interest is in transplant dermatology. Patients who have received a transplant are on immunosuppressive medications, and these medicines can dramatically increase the risk for skin cancers. In our transplant dermatology clinics, we strive to take excellent care of the patient population, utilizing the newest and best techniques for overall skin care.

I’m an assistant professor in the Division of Dermatology, where I serve as the residency program’s assistant director as well as the director of the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship. My research focuses primarily on post-operative scar formation and the evaluation tools of post-operative scars.

I am privileged to be able to help patients through their diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, providing each patient with an individualized care program that is tailored to their specific needs and utilizes a team approach. The team atmosphere at the OSUCCC – James is wonderful. For more complicated cases, we have a tumor board that joins multiple specialties across the medical system, allowing us to give patients the best possible care.

Dr. Carr was so professional and caring. He did a great job with my procedure. I appreciate him very much!

Generally very good. I do wish he had been more descriptive of the procedure he was about to perform on me. He gave it a name , I asked him what that meant and he said it was named after the person who invented it. I was looking for a brief description layman's description of the procedure.

Dr. Carr knows what he is doing AND for most people he would be excellent. I have severe anxiety issues.

I am in awe of Dr. Carr. He performed a Mohs procedure on the tip of my nose. A small area to work. Very delicate area, strived to give me the best end result for as little scarring as possible. Explained every step in detail. Drew a picture to explain how he planned on closing up my wound.
