About Me
As a dermatologist, I’m passionate about providing the highest level of care possible. Whether I see you for something as common as acne, as critical as skin cancer, or as personalized as a cosmetic procedure, your treatment and satisfaction are of the utmost importance to me. I have a motto: “Smelling good, looking good, feeling good.” Dermatology allows me to help patients achieve all three!
I specialize in cosmetic dermatology. Patients feel better when they like how they look. I love that I have the privilege of helping people achieve that confidence. I also enjoy my field because the wide variety of treatments makes every day exciting. I regularly treat skin and scalp disorders, rashes, and warts, and provide procedures like botox, fillers, blepharoplasty, liposuction, tattoo removal, laser hair removal, phototherapy, and vein, laser, scar, and birthmark treatments.
Providing general dermatology and cosmetic treatments for patients with skin-of-color is another one of my specialties. Being skin-of-color myself, I understand that treatments can be more complex and challenging. It’s a goal of mine to expand access and quality treatment for skin-of-color patients.
My research has focused on cosmetic advancements in Botox, liposuction, laser therapy, and collagen induction therapy. Currently, I was awarded a Patient Care of Innovation (PCI) grant for Laser Tattoo Removal: Radiotherapy Patients & Former Inmates. I’m also researching why cystic fibrosis patients experience acne. In addition, I’m conducting research to identify the barriers skin-of-color patients may face in receiving quality cosmetic treatments.
My responsibilities include being the Director of Cosmetic Dermatology for the Department of Dermatology and mentoring students who are interested in dermatology. I love that The Ohio State University, as such a large academic institution, gives providers and students the opportunity to treat a diverse patient population. We also have access to the very latest medical advancements, which allow us to enhance patient care even more.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my wife and kids, working out as well as playing basketball and watching movies.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. Dr. Shipp is always friendly, professional and very attentive to my needs regarding my dermatology appointments. I have seen him many times over several years and I have not had a bad experience with him. I appreciate that he cares about my medical needs and always encourages me to reach out to him when I have questions or concerns. I appreciate that he responds directly to my chart contacts with him rather than having another medical assistant to do so.

Did not advise me during previous appointment that he could give me a numbing cream to use before the procedure. Also did not ask at previous appointment if I get cold sores and prescribe medication to help prevent that. Nurse brought both up at this appointment.

Dr. Shipp was very helpful in explaining that the laser hair removal I wanted wouldn't work because the hair was mostly gray and laser didn't work on gray hair. He said that there were alternatives that I could try and explained them in depth.

Dr. Shipp is very knowledgeable and presents information in a digestible way. Dr. Shipp/ OSU did not have my medical records and he had me complete two release of information forms to retrieve them right away, and called me the next day to discuss. His approach is comprehensive and I am grateful he prioritized getting my records sent to OSU. I have been a patient of OSU dermatology for over a year, and my records/ medical history had not been looked at or needed beforehand. Dr. Shipp removed three suspicious moles during this appointment, and even addressed my concerns/ questions about tretinion and a skin rash. He also gave me suggestions for prevention of veins protruding/ bubbling which I appreciated.

I appreciated that he did the full body skin exam in a very professional and direct manner and his ability to educate me and clearly communicate.
This visit was for annual dermatology exam after finding 2 basil cell cancers a year ago. Dr Shipp was very thourgh in the exam and spent additional time looking at a couple of areas that concerned me. My only disappointment was when he told me that he is moving to surgery so I will have a different dermatologist going forward.
