About Me

As a psychologist, I specialize in clinical rehabilitation psychology. One area of my clinical focus is patients who have experienced a concussion. I have developed a specialized Concussion Clinic to address specific concerns and provide focused interventions for this population. My goal is to improve patient education and expectation and enhance their positive recovery trajectory post-concussion. I work closely with related rehabilitation disciplines to implement a team-based approach and improve patient experience and access to care.

I also specialize in topics of sexuality and sexual functioning, particularly in rehabilitation populations. This often presents to a patient and/or their partners as the sexual impact of a medical condition, commonly spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, cancer, amputation or musculoskeletal condition. Sexuality plays an important role in identity and relationships for many patients and can be vital to their experience of recovery, although sexuality is often less addressed during the rehabilitation process. I seek to advocate patient and provider discussion and management of this domain in order to achieve comprehensive rehabilitation outcomes.

Lastly, I work with patients on the inpatient rehabilitation service post-stroke. This service provides evaluation and treatment for cognition and mood as well as adjustment to life changes post-stroke. I meet with the patient’s family or caregivers to educate and support, so that they may best assist their loved ones in recovery.

I provide a variety of assessment and intervention services. Some are tailored to specific rehabilitation populations so that patients can expect specialized services that are specifically for their goals. Patients may undergo cognitive evaluation, which examines the performance of brain functions such as memory or attention, among other domains. Patients could also focus on treatment as related to mood or the impact of their medical issues on their life, such as relationships, work/school or household activities. Regardless of the particular service, all patients can expect open, consistent communication in our work together, even when dealing with difficult or uncomfortable topics.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking (but mostly eating), outdoor activities, traveling, and spending valuable time with my family and friends.

Consulting and Related Relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
