Academics and research

My work centers on better understanding the relationship between diabetes, acute and chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer. This includes a focus on strategies to improve early detection. I also oversee evaluation and surveillance for patients at increased risk for pancreatic cancer due to family or genetic risk factors. My team is investigating different approaches to modify the inflammatory profile of chronic pancreatitis, which is a premalignant condition.

I co-lead multiple studies, trials and working groups funded by the National Institutes of Health. I am currently a principal investigator for the Consortium for the Study of Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer, and for the Type 1 Diabetes in Acute Pancreatitis Consortium. My research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals including PLoS Medicine, Pancreatology, BMC Gastroenterology and the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.
