Optometrist, Assistant Professor
Optometry
Department: Ophthalmology
As an optometrist, I work with the visually impaired to best use their remaining functional vision after vision loss. Most eye care is focused on preventing vision loss and maintaining good ocular health. My role is to work with patients to suggest remediations that help compensate for visual loss. I primarily treat vision loss due to hereditary and pathological eye diseases. I introduce strategies to use the remaining vision through technology, behavior changes and low vision aids. I also connect patients with other services that may be helpful in their rehabilitation process. I love the availability to work with and learn from so many stellar clinicians and researchers here.
For 25 years, I worked at a multidisciplinary rehabilitation facility for the blind and visually impaired. There, I had the opportunity to work with vision rehab professionals from a variety of professions. I continue to consult at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Multidisciplinary Low Vision Clinic. In addition, I have lectured to community groups, allied medical students and professionals, optometry and ophthalmology professionals as well as conducted educational seminars for rehabilitation counselors and served on accreditation teams for vision rehabilitation facilities. At Ohio State, I have been an assistant clinical professor at the College of Optometry and currently hold that position in the College of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.

I am a clinical assistant professor at The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry, I have been practicing vision rehabilitation for over 25 years in the Columbus area. Pediatric low vision is an additional area of interest which I pursue through Pediatric Ophthalmology Associates as a consultant for the Pediatric Multidisciplinary Low Vision Clinic at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I am a member of the Ohio Optometric (OOA) and American Optometric Association (AOA).

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
