About Me
I am a rheumatologist in the Division of Oncology, exploring the interface of oncology and rheumatology. My clinical and research time is dedicated to defining how cancer treatments disrupt the immune system and create brand-new autoimmune diseases. I am leading research in how to define and classify these new autoimmune sequelae, and developing evidence-based steroid-sparing guidelines. I am directing a novel new clinic called the Immunotherapy Management Clinic (IMC). This clinic is embedded in the Division on Oncology to help oncologists manage the side effects of immunotherapy and CART.
I teach medical learners on all levels, such teaching medical students how to take a history and perform a physical. I am also a GME success coach, helping residents and fellows reach their full potential to be successful physicians.
Some of my research interests include improving clinical outcomes for vasculitis and lupus, shared decision making and patient-physician communication database research.
The best part about working at Ohio State is that every day is different. I’m able to teach many types of people, from patients to fellows, as well as conduct research to improve my patients’ health outcomes.
I have blended family with an amazing husband, 6 active children, a dog and we spend time working on cars, traveling and going to all the childrens' sports events.

Dr. Alexa Meara is such a kind & caring person. She always takes her time with me and explains herself very well.
Dr. Meara seemed somewhat abrasive & impatient w/me.
Dr Meara is exceptional! She saved my life.
When I seen my dr. she was in the room for 2 min. She didn't seem to care about anything I said I was told to tell my health care provider and to come back in a year. I'm very confused about her job description I always told to follow up with family dr.
Dr. Meara is excellent! Always listens and is concerned and helpful. I don't know what I would do with her.
