About Me
I’m a family physician and enjoy the vast variety of patients and conditions that this field brings. Over the course of my career, I have developed a special interest in preventive medicine and performing in-office skin procedures.
I take a comprehensive approach to patient care and include the patient in the decision-making and diagnostic process. I enjoy helping patients thoroughly understand their condition, and encourage them to engage in healthy lifestyles that promote their well-being.
Working for Ohio State motivates me to keep up to date on the latest medical research and guidelines. My work here allows me to treat a diverse patient population, and to share my passion for medicine by teaching medical students and the community I treat.
When I’m away from work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as well as participating in any outdoor activity.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 10/25/2021, Dr. MacKinlay has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
2nd visit/only dr. & excellent visit.
First time I met the new dr. She seemed great!
I thought there would be a physical exam but we just listened to my heart and felt glands
This was my first visit with Dr. Mackinlay. This visit went very well.
She was patient in answering my questions and trying to find solutions.
This MD is in my PCP's practice and was very professional, addressed all my concerns and ordered a test to diagnose my health issue; and referred me to a specialist about another problem. They both replied to my questions on MyChart.
She was business like, asked questions and listened to me.
Dr. MacKinlay is a great fit for me. She is very concerned about the patient and took plenty of time to discuss my health and lifestyle with me.
First visit with Dr. McKinley. She was a good listener and took time with me.
She was very friendly & listened to my concerns. This was my first visit since moving here. I had hoped to get in to see her before waiting 3 mos. for an appt.
Professional. This was a "first visit"
She was professional, attentive & knowledgeable.
I enjoyed meeting Dr. MacKinlay she is insightful and seems to want to try to eliminate things before jumping to conclusions.
Unfortunately the doctor did a poor job of asking pertinent medical history questions (did not ask about medications, etc.) and moved on from a topic before it had been fully addressed. At times I felt that my concerns were dismissed or minimalized.
Make a very good first impression. This was my first visit. She did not rush through appointment with perfunctory check-list.
I was changing my PCP after 25 years with the same doctor due to declining care and too much emphasis on the use of medications. Dr. MacKinlay exceeded my expectations. She took the time to listen to me and provide me with suggestions and options in maintaining my health.
She is a good provider.
She was very good and I appreciate her knowledge and non judgmental attitude. I don't have a primary care physician but I hope to make her mine.
Very informative, listens well, easy to talk to.
The doctor was knowledgeable, attentive, sympathetic and explained things well.
Rather cold. More interested in her convenience than what's best for me.
Took tome to listen. Didn't feel rushed
This provider was very professional and patient-oriented. I couldn't ask for a better first-time experience.
a good listener and addressed my concernsd
Refreshing, kind, helpful and even remembered personal details from past conversations.
All were very good & professional!
Dr. MacKinlay was amazing. She was very thorough and she spent a good amount of time with me. I was very impressed. She also has a nice personality.
Friendly and concerned about my visit.
very good
The doctor was very good for a first visit. She did not have my health records from my previous doctor but seemed thorough.
Dr. Mackinlay is great. She's friendly, honest, & helpful.
dr. Alison Mackinlay was awesome. pleasant, respectful, knowledgeable and thourough. experience was great.
Really appreciate her taking the time to listen, answer my questions, and to thoughtfully and promptly pursue safe treatment options.
First time I met her in person. I really liked her.
Good Experience
Kind and attentive, understanding of my nervousness. This was my 1st visit (setting up a new PCP) so she was great at getting my medical background and talking me through things.
Not very friendly.
