About Me
I’m an emergency medicine physician specializing in medical toxicology. Most often, I treat patients suffering from overdoses caused by either an illicit substance or from taking excessive amounts of medications. I also care for patients who’ve been poisoned or are dealing with adverse drug effects.
I’m passionate about healing these patients to the best of my ability. It’s an honor to know my body of work has helped to refine how medical professionals manage opioid overdoses in both adults and children. My research is focused on how to utilize advanced technologies at the intersection of substance abuse, HIV and human behavior.
Training the next generation of physicians has been a highlight of my career. I’m proud that my mentees have gone on to successful careers of their own as hospital leaders, medical school deans and department chairs.
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is an awesome place to work because the people are very friendly and caring.
In my free time, I enjoy beekeeping. As a scientist, this practice really tests and hones my powers of observation.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Boyer has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
