Biography
I am a dual fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with expertise in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery. I treat patients with a wide range of cerebrovascular disorders such as brain aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformations, arteriovenous fistulas, acute stroke, carotid stenosis, subdural hematomas, cavernous malformations and moyamoya disease.
I received my undergraduate and medical school degrees from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. I continued my residency training in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, where I also completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular neurosurgery. I then completed a fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ.
I have been active in research throughout my training and have authored numerous published studies. My basic science research focuses on neuroinflammation after acute cerebrovascular injury such as ischemic stroke, and potential therapies for neuroprotection and neuro-recovery. Clinically, I study the long-term outcomes of patients with cerebrovascular disorders.

I collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of skilled experts to ensure that my patients receive personalized care tailored to their unique needs and values. In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about advancing scientific research and mentoring the next generation of neurosurgeons.

Academics and research
I am a fellowship-trained cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgeon whose clinical and research interests lie at the intersection of neuroscience and immunology. Clinically, I evaluate and treat patients with neurovascular disorders including cerebral aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformations, arteriovenous fistulas, carotid stenosis, cavernous malformations, and large vessel occlusions. Academically, I seek to understand the immune mechanisms of primary and secondary injury after acute ischemic stroke, and how immune checkpoints regulate acute and chronic dysfunction of the central nervous system.
Of the 15 million patients who suffer a stroke each year, more than half are left with chronic or permanent disabilities. Mechanical thrombectomy with or without thrombolytics revolutionized the treatment of acute large vessel occlusions and continues to be the most effective intervention for reducing infarct volume and improving early motor outcomes. Still, long-term neurologic sequelae persist, in large part due to pathologic and chronic neuroinflammation. My lab seeks to better understand the immune mediators of secondary injury after ischemic stroke, and to develop novel immune-based therapies that can serve as neuroprotective adjuncts to mechanical thrombectomy.
