About Me

I am a board-certified radiation oncologist treating patients with radiation therapy as part of a multimodal, comprehensive treatment plan. I specialize in head and neck cancers, skull base tumors, central nervous system metastases and lung cancer. Radiation is often combined with other methods to treat cancer, and at the OSUCCC – James, we specialize in formulating a multi-disciplinary, unique therapy approach to individually treat our patients.

As an associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University, I have conducted multiple cooperative group and investigator-initiated clinical trials/. I serve on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s (NCCN) Small Cell Lung Carcinoma Guideline Panel, the NASA Carcinogenesis Grant Review Panel and the NASA CNS effects Grant Review Panel. I am Co-Editor in Chief of the ALLIANCE for Clinical Trials in Oncology, as well as a member of ALLIANCE’s Radiation Oncology Committee, Cancer in the Elderly Committee and Neuro-oncology Committee

I am also a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC – James, where my research focuses on imaging, radiosensitization of tumors and radioprotection. I am Principal Investigator of a clinical trial expanding the use of functional DCE-MRI for outcome prediction in lung cancer, and I serve as the ALLIANCE co-chair of an International Phase II/III Randomized Trial of Prophylactic Cranial Radiotherapy with or without Hippocampal Avoidance in Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients (NRG CC003).

Recently, I contributed to a study that showed how a focally-directed treatment strategy using fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy with or without surgery appears to be an effective initial strategy for patients with newly diagnosed brain metastases. My other recent research includes an exploration of the effectiveness of radiation therapy combined with intracerebral administration of carboplatin for brain tumor treatment.

I have served as a principal investigator and co-investigator on more than 50 research projects, including phase I and II clinical trials, and have authored over 65 articles appearing in such well-respected publications as Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Neurosurgery, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, Radiation Oncology and Journal of Cancer Science & Therapy.

My goal as an oncologist is to research and implement the most effective and individualized radiation treatment plans for patients. I have been selected by my national peers for the Best Doctor Award and was named to the Castle Connolly list of “Regional Top Doctors” from 2006 to 2019. At the OSUCCC – James, I received the James Spirit of Hope Award for Excellence in Patient Care and have been elected by my peers to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard Solove’s Research Institute’s Chief of Staff Elect position.
