About Me
As a dermatologist, I specialize in treating conditions that can bring patients into the hospital such as adverse reactions to medications, side effects from chemotherapy and targeted cancer medications, exfoliative erythroderma, severe dermatitis, lymphedema, neutrophilic dermatoses such as Sweet syndrome and pyoderma gangrenosum, and skin manifestations of internal diseases such as diabetes. I also care for patients with autoimmune blistering diseases such as bullous pemphigoid and pemphigus, as well as thyroid disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
In addition to treating patients in the hospital, I also work as a dermatopathologist, which involves diagnosing skin samples under the microscope. Reaching an accurate diagnosis is of the utmost importance, and I am committed to an evidence-based approach that is individualized based on the patient’s needs and values. I genuinely want to get to know my patients and I empower them to share in the decision-making when we’re formulating a treatment plan for their skin condition. I like to spend time talking through a diagnosis and making sure the patient is educated about all the options in order to agree on a plan that makes everyone comfortable.
It’s an honor to do this work alongside such exceptional colleagues here at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I am impressed by the depth of expertise and the resources available for scholarship and research. Ohio State has a familial and collaborative atmosphere that I deeply appreciate, and I believe this behavior is crucial for building healthy mentor-mentee and doctor-patient relationships.
My current research is focused on outcomes in hospitalized patients when provided continuity of care in a specialized outpatient environment. In addition to my clinical work, I have been involved in policy efforts to improve health care. I worked on legislative efforts to protect minors from indoor artificial UV exposure with the goal of reducing skin cancer rates and I have served on several National Cancer Comprehensive Network (NCCN) panels that issue guideline-based recommendations in areas of cutaneous lymphoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer.
My role at Ohio State includes mentoring students and resident physicians during inpatient dermatology consultations; teaching and mentoring future physicians is a privilege, and to do so while caring for patients creates an interactive environment that I believe improves care.
I consider myself a music and movie fanatic, but most of my free time is filled with laughs with my family and raising two small children who are full of love and mischief.
