About Me
As a family medicine physician at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I treat patients with asthma, exercise induced asthma, athletic injuries, diabetes and hypertension. I also specialize in adolescent medicine and pediatrics, travel medicine, preconception care, contraception, medical education and health promotion. I think it’s important for patients to establish a relationship with a family physician they can trust.
I have a special interest in preventive medicine and vaccinations. I strongly promote preventive health with my patients in order to keep them from getting too sick in the first place. I believe that family medicine is the cornerstone of good healthcare. As family medicine physicians, we provide a basic service that everyone needs.
My favorite part about working at Ohio State is the opportunity to work with and teach medical students. It’s also a great location with good benefits.
When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling, cooking and spending time with my children.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Farrell has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
Dr Farrell is thorough and caring. Very respectful of us and our child
I was given a form to fill out about anxiety/depression, circled some things and it was never addressed.
Seems to be a good Dr.
I was offered flu and covid vaccines. When I declined the covid vaccine Dr. Farrell would not take no for an answer. He accompanied his judgmental rebukes with phrases like "You know this isn't going away right" and "you're making a mistake". I CHOSE to use Ohio State for my elective medicine and now I am choosing to take my business elsewhere. When my decision were met with the classic guilt trip which led me to overturn my decision and get the vaccine I subsequently missed work due to the side effects. I am beyond furious with this practice's continued focus on optics and focusing less on the wishes of the patient. Imagine what judgment could come to light if I had to discuss ANY actual problems regarding my health. I'm taking my business elsewhere.
Dr. Matthew Farrell, has been our Doctor for quite awhile. I don't see us using any other providers
Took time to listen to my symptoms & review previous treatment I received. Prescribed new med. Also encouraged to get Covid vaccine now since Covid is spreading.

Dr. Farrell is always very professional, he listens and really cares about our concerns
The provider did not explain to my child what was happening and why during all parts of the physical exam, particularly the examination of genitals. It would be my preference that the provider offer more information and explanation. I will also ask for this at my next visit.
The Doctor took time to listen to my concerns and addressed my issues.

Dr. Farrell and I had some good exchange about vaccines. He wanted me to get a covid vaccine and RSV vaccine. I declined to do it. My flu shot is working well and I try to take good care of myself at home. Otherwise, my visit was a good and productive one.

Dr. Farrell is excellent. Very thorough, took time with me, explained things well
Professional and personable, asked questions about medical history and symptomsI appreciated that he let me know the variety of options of what my issue could be and the likelihood of each diagnosisDid not appear to see on my chart that I had been on an antibiotic within the last 2 monthsSaid he was testing for c diff but did not explain if there were any precautions for same or return to work with my symptoms
Feel very confident in trusting him with my health and appreciate his frank, but caring and down to earth manner when discussing health matters.
The provider is very knowledgeable. He knew that my issue was not serious. Prescribed medicine as needed and gave me exercises to do a good advice.
Dr.Ferrall is very thorough, friendly and was well informed about my medical conditions since this was my first visit. He focused on my blood pressure which was my chief concern!
Dr. Farrell is always really thorough, which is great. I don't like that I'm kept waiting well after my appointment time when I visit. I also don't like that I have to press back multiple times when he asks me to get certain vaccines (flu, COVID booster).
