Biography
I am a clinical assistant professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I specialize in caring for adolescent and young adult patients who have experienced the recent onset of a psychotic disorder. I also assess and treat patients showing early warning signs that indicate they are at risk of developing a psychotic disorder such as schizophrenia.
I am fortunate to work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Early Psychosis Intervention Center (EPICENTER) at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. My team and I provide comprehensive treatment services to help our patients and their families to reach their individualized recovery goals. Rather than conduct psychotherapy focused solely on symptom reduction, I passionately cultivate a safe and collaborative space where my patients can make sense of the challenges they have experienced, explore the goals they have for their lives, build skills, and develop a strong sense of agency. My role also includes helping to educate future providers.
My research focuses on identifying the cognitive, neural and clinical symptom features of psychosis. I am particularly interested in studying speech and language patterns across the psychosis spectrum, including how people search for related concepts in their minds and how people understand and communicate their personal life stories. I am also interested in disseminating psychosis intervention services in community settings and improving the quality of clinical care.

Academics and research
My research examines challenges with thought organization and communication in people living with psychosis spectrum conditions. In this work, I study how individuals search for related concepts, connect ideas, and translate them into spoken language, with an emphasis on how these processes go awry in psychosis. I use computational linguistic methods and interdisciplinary frameworks, such as animal foraging theories, to better understand how individuals balance exploration and exploitation while navigating and retrieving related concepts from memory. I use neuroscientific approaches to investigate how the brain supports these processes, with a focus on cerebellar contributions to coordinating thought and speech and electrophysiological markers of semantic search. Finally, my research in this area explores how individuals construct and communicate personal narratives, such as their life stories, to others.
The goal of my research is to support the development of new, more effective treatments that improve individuals’ capacity to integrate thought and language. Ultimately, this work aims to enhance the social functioning, insight, personal agency, and long-term recovery of people with psychosis spectrum disorders.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Nancy Lundin has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
