Biography
Philip Samuels, MD, is director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program and director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. He is a professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Originally from Corsicana, Texas, Dr. Samuals earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine, Lubbock, Texas. He completed his residency at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine, Norfolk, Va., followed by a fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Samuels’ clinical and research interests include the medical complications of pregnancy, especially neurological, hematological, renal, autoimmune and gastrointestinal (including liver). He has written book chapters and papers in these and other areas.
He is passionate about educating students, residents and fellows. He enjoys preparing them for lifelong learning; and teaching and modeling professionalism. His favorite part of medical education is bedside teaching.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Samuels enjoys spending time with family, gardening with native Ohio plants, bird watching, photography, theater and classical music.
