About Me
As an otolaryngologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I specialize in sinus surgery, sleep apnea, thyroid surgery and pediatrics. I have a special interest in sinus issues and implants for seizure disorders, as well as treating children for tonsil issues and ear tubes.
I believe using a holistic approach to patient care, and not just simply treating a patient’s symptoms. I think it’s important to listen to each patient’s concerns and work with him or her to resolve any issues.
I love my job and enjoy working with my patients to help improve their quality of life. The Ohio State University’s Department of Otolaryngology is ranked as one of the best in the nation, and our physicians work together to give patients the best care and medical therapy. I am very happy to have found my purpose as an ENT physician.
In my free time I enjoy running, playing tennis and spending as much time as possible with my wife and four children.

Attentive, caring, thorough, knowledgeable, and informative.
I went in with several issues: dizziness (which I felt was comming from sinuses) and I explained I had two throat surgeries at the back of my throat around my esophages for an area that had thinned and pouched out and where food was collecting. I told Dr. Pena that this area was collecting sinus drainage and I was awakening in the middle of the night coughing out this drainage. He heard the part about the drainage and not the part about the idea that the surgical area was pouching out again. The conversation went on about the drainage and what could be done and he recommended Flonase and Mucinex D. I was in and out quickly, he was on his way to lunch and I was the last patient in there. I realized when I got to the car the issue of the pouching throat area was not addressed, I was concentrating on what he was saying and was distracted from the actual issue. I see this is partly my fault for not describing the problem or my concernbetter, but I feel he may have been subconsciously concentrating on the easily solvable and missed the problem for which I was there.
He showed concern and answered questions

We loved Dr Pema
Always listens, excellent care and great communicator.
I came to Dr. Pema for a second opinion and was impressed with the time he spent with me trying to solve my problem--unlike the time the previous doctor spent with me. His probing questions helped in pinpointing the problem. Dr. Pema is a very caring and thorough doctor.
Excellent, showed care and concern and helped me.

Very friendly and attentive to my questions patiently explained answers to-questions.
I love Dr. Pema!
Dr. Pema was also excellent (he was a student of my original ENT physician at OSU). Reassured me that pain in my ear was from wax, removed wax & explained about a kind of hearing aid that might enable at least the sensation of bilateral hearing. He gave me instructions on follow-up info; & a trial run, if I decide to try the device.
Overall great exp.

Dr. Pema truly loves and cares about my life.
Very thorough! Explained my situation very carefully and eased my concerns.

Very kind, I liked him. He had a plan for my care. I didn't see that he knew my history. He did not ask many questions. He did not explain the different possible reasons for my dizziness. He did not explain my follow-up, when I would see him again.

Very empathetic; great bedside manner.
I felt that he was very unconcerned at my one and only post op visit. Went in 3 days after surgery to have my drained removed and that was my only visit.

Excellent !!
All good
Kind, listened well, respectful, competent
Dr Pema was kind, caring, & professional. Explained medical information in easy to understand language. Other providers could learn how to interact with patients from him.
Appointment evaluation was fine. Front desk clerk was very kind and personable.
Excellent correction of condition and referral to rehab.
Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful! Really paid attention to my problem and came up with a solution.
Great physician his audiologist was also very good
Very quick and reassuring during ear exam and ear wax extraction.
He was so attentive, eye contact, shared "chit chat" type conversation thus creating calm feeling/atmosphere.
This provider did not address my most serious concerns; he did not even respond to them. The very reason I scheduled the appointment. Terrible experience. Total waste of time. I have VERY SERIOUS ENT issues I've been struggling with for over 4 years and was treated like a child with allergies. Medications he wanted me to take in past and told him they don't work. He had them sent (mailed) to me anyway. Completely wasted my and my wife's time.
He was honest. I need that.
He's great at removing my skin tag on roof of my mouth gagging me. Ate lunch & supper.
Great care. Explanations and directions were clear. They cured my vertigo which I'd had for 15 months. I should have sought help earlier.
Very good
Dr. Pema took the time to listen to me, but didn't suggest great options regarding my treatment when I know there are other options. I felt like I was getting turfed.
Everything was good.
Dr. Pema was wonderful, very reassuring & friendly. He was great about explaining things to me & helpful in letting me know I would have follow up. Great experience - I was happy to find him & his staff. Super people!!!
He listenned well. Acted quickly but carefully.
Professional and took time to listen to my concerns
Very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful
Very good.
I had a nose bleed in the middle night that went on & off for 4 days. I contacted OSU and the referred me to Dr. Pema. They wanted me in the next day and with some medication and a couple of home humidifiers it seems to have passed. It's been over 2 weeks. I believe it started by laying face down on CPAP mask and dry air at home. Was grateful to Dr. Pema - a specialist - to see me on such short notice.
Knowledgeable, professional, courteous.
Very friendly - first time meeting dr.
Dr Pema listened to my concern without judgment and explained well
The doctor performing the exam & the doctor performing the hearing test were both great, thanks!
Dr. Pema showed great concern for my hearing problem & a keen desire to improve my hearing.

Very good.
Excellent.
My appointment was over in less than 15 mins., but it was because it was such an easy diagnosis. Came in, he looked at the issue, asked some questions about it, diagnosed, then I scheduled my procedure for the following week.
I was cared for really well
Very attentive, professional and friendly
Dr. Pema was EXCEPTIONAL
Dr. Pema explained what he was doing at the time. I did not understand that I would have lots of pain and sinus issues afterwards. I messaged him on MyChart and told him I was experiencing and he said it was normal. I liked him and thought he communicated well during the appt.
Great!
Positive - took time to explain CT results in understandable way, friendly. Negative - didn't understand my complex medical conditions & history. Negative - no solutions/suggestions for acute conditions.
Very professional. Treated me with respect.
Dr. Pema was personable, professional and efficient. Very happy with his care.
Dr. Pema is my favorite doc.
He was very funny, listened carefully to me, showed concern for my well-being, and even connected with my guardian
Top notch.
Dr. Robert was very kind and handled my ear care well. I was concerned as I had temporary impaired hearing because of earwax blockage but he fixed the issue very quickly, with no need for a follow up. He was very understanding and encouraged me not to use cotton swabs to clean my ears, while also not being judgmental at all. I accidentally reopened a knee injury during the visit and he was very considerate and personally escorted me to get gauze. I definitely recommend him as a doctor and had a good experience during my visit.
What a pleasant experience given the pain I was in, he fixed it immediately!
Busy, but helpful and concerned over your treatment and wellbeing.
Spot on! Efficient. He nailed it and my problem was accurately treated and I feel better. Thanks
Dr. Pema was efficient and also made it a point to get to know me as a person. He showed that he cares and explains things clearly.
Listened to me and explained my hearing loss in an understandable manner.
Wonderful.
Nothing at all about the office or providers was any different than any other ones I've received services at, honestly.
Dr. Pema is absolutely awesome!
Really listened to understand my problem
He's empathetic. A great listener and provides great transparency and reassurance. I trust him with my health
My care provider was very pleasant and knowlegable and took the time to address my concerns
Dr. Pema was very attentive to my condition and explored options with me concerning possible remedies and care. I would highly recommend him and would revisit him for future consultation.
Highly professional and of great assistance.
Dr Pema is the ABSOLUTE BEST! He is the kindest and most genuinely nice physician I have even been to. He cares about his patients. He listens. He is very knowledgeable and very capable. Great physician with a great bedside manner. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Pema.
Dr. Pema was courteous and also apologized for running behind. I was not convinced, however, that he actually "heard" what I had to say. He was quick to dismiss my concerns without ordering any imaging. Only a hearing test was scheduled a performed.
No bad experience, and he was quite attentive to all my concerns and listened to me in patience. I appreciate his patience.
Dr. Pema always makes me feel very comfortable and provides such personal care
The best.
Dr. Pema is an excellent provider that genuinely cares for his patients. He is very invested and provides excellent care.
I liked Dr. Pema. Knowledgeable/friendly.
When I expressed the concerns I had about the care I had received from a different provider prior to seeing him about the same issues, he was sympathetic and I felt that I was receiving much more accurate information and finally a correct diagnosis for what brought me to him.
Good
Friendly, polite and professional!
Took time to listen. Very attentive & personable.
Very good
He is very caring and concerns himself with my issues.
Concern was increased loudness and frequency of high frequency hearing loss tinnitus. (Seemed to increase with lisinopril prescription and sinus issues.) Provider was rushed, dismissive, and indifferent to my concerns. He was not helpful at all. Appointment was a waste of my time.
Provided a solution for my problem; check thoroughly to ensure that there were no additional under lined problems.
Dr. Pema was very nice, attentive, personable. However, he did not have great familiarity with my issue, did not ask pertinent questions. I am now left to work with my PCP to find another provider who may be more knowledgeable.
Top service
Wonderful and caring doctor and staff
First visit. Impressed with the doctor's knowledge and ability to explain my hearing issue.
