Neurology
Department: Neurology
I am a board-certified family nurse practitioner specializing in care of patients with Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, restless leg syndrome and functional movement disorders. My role involves working closely with neurologists and other specialists to ensure comprehensive management of each case, including facilitating referrals and organizing care to optimize treatment outcomes. My expertise in preventive care allows me to effectively manage symptoms and reduce complications associated with Parkinson's and other conditions, improving the overall quality of life for patients. In addition, I am trained in deep brain stimulation (DBS) programming.
I love working in neurology because it allows me to significantly impact patients’ lives, especially those with chronic conditions who require ongoing care management. From my previous experience working in rehabilitation nursing, I know the importance of helping people maintain as much independence as possible and I work to help our patients and their families navigate the challenges they encounter. My patients can expect a compassionate and personalized approach that considers their physical, emotional and social needs, ensuring a well-rounded approach to managing disease. Treatment plans are always customized based on patient needs and preferences.
I foster a collaborative and supportive environment where patients can feel comfortable. I prioritize open communication, which makes it easier for patients to ask questions and ensure they feel heard and understood. I am also dedicated to educating patients and their families about their medical situations, empowering them with knowledge and resources to manage their conditions effectively.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I have participated in several clinical trials involving DBS and focused ultrasound ablation. I also created a helpful patient education tool explaining the DBS candidacy process. I have delivered poster presentations at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Nursing Excellence Fair and at the annual conference of the ARN (Association of Rehabilitation Nurses).
In addition, I lead staff education classes focused on the movement disorders we manage in our clinic. I also serve as a nurse preceptor for students in the Adult Gerontology and Family Nurse Practitioner programs.
