Biography
I am a general dentist who cares for medically complex patients and for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For the past 25 years, I have practiced and taught in academic medical centers. This passion led me to my current role as dental program director of The Ohio State University Nisonger Center.
The Nisonger Center is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on improving the lives of people with neurodevelopmental disorders. Working here has allowed me to focus on patients who previously had little or no access to dental care, and to train the next generation of health care providers. I’ve found this mission deeply rewarding. With the support of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I’m encouraged to create innovative educational programs and develop oral health policy at the state and national levels, while conducting patient-focused oral health research in a caring environment.
Prior to my academic career, I served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, in which I focused on creating programs to improve access to dental care for underserved populations. I was honored to receive an Outstanding Service Medal for my efforts.
