About Me

As a gastroenterologist, I’m passionate about improving the lives of my patients. I’m a professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and excited to lead the Neurogastroenterology and Motility section. I treat a broad range of conditions, including disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) as well as motility disorders that affect the function of the GI system.

However, the primary focus of my clinical and scientific work is in disorders of vomiting, specifically a condition called cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS). My research is focused in understanding the cause for CVS and developing better therapies to treat this disorder. I was the lead author on the first-ever guidelines on the management of CVS, which is an important milestone that should help improve the lives of these patients. I’m also involved in multiple key clinical trials and studies in CVS with many exciting advances in the pipeline. I serve as one of the chief medical advisors to the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association (CVSA), a nonprofit organization that serves to help patients with this condition. I also collaborate with other nonprofit organizations such as the International Foundation of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) and help with education, dissemination of information and research.

I enjoy working in academic medicine and helping to train the next generation of physicians. I mentor medical students, residents and junior faculty members, and help them with their professional and personal development.

When I’m not working, I love spending time with family and friends. I enjoy traveling and gardening. I also serve as a meditation instructor.

Explained everything to me this visit. I'm passed visits this didn't happen. I was considering changing providers, but will continue for now. Maybe I just didn't give her the chance to get to know me. I'm a fairly new patient.

I understood everything she said! Really appreciated her and her staff.

Care provider offered no help. She undiagnosed me based on me answering questions after waiting 8 months for an appointment. I've spent a lot of money finding help myself because gastroparesis is not a hospital money maker. I felt dismissed. Told I had constipation. And that I was managing it fine. No info or test were offered for her @constipation" diagnosis.

Love, Love Venkatesan; she is the only specialist I know who can treat my disease. My gastro dr. told me my disease warrants seeing her. She cares so much and really tries to help me and to improve what I can with my episodes. Her research is very valuable to my care ad my primary care dr. She always takes time and shows concern for my OVERALL wellbeing not just treating my syndrome.
