About Me

As a gastroenterologist, I’m passionate about improving the lives of my patients. I’m a professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and excited to lead the Neurogastroenterology and Motility section. I treat a broad range of conditions, including disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) as well as motility disorders that affect the function of the GI system.

However, the primary focus of my clinical and scientific work is in disorders of vomiting, specifically a condition called cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS). My research is focused in understanding the cause for CVS and developing better therapies to treat this disorder. I was the lead author on the first-ever guidelines on the management of CVS, which is an important milestone that should help improve the lives of these patients. I’m also involved in multiple key clinical trials and studies in CVS with many exciting advances in the pipeline. I serve as one of the chief medical advisors to the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association (CVSA), a nonprofit organization that serves to help patients with this condition. I also collaborate with other nonprofit organizations such as the International Foundation of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) and help with education, dissemination of information and research.

I enjoy working in academic medicine and helping to train the next generation of physicians. I mentor medical students, residents and junior faculty members, and help them with their professional and personal development.

When I’m not working, I love spending time with family and friends. I enjoy traveling and gardening. I also serve as a meditation instructor.

Love, Love Venkatesan; she is the only specialist I know who can treat my disease. My gastro dr. told me my disease warrants seeing her. She cares so much and really tries to help me and to improve what I can with my episodes. Her research is very valuable to my care ad my primary care dr. She always takes time and shows concern for my OVERALL wellbeing not just treating my syndrome.

Honestly, I can not say enough good things about Dr. V., she is a class act. So happy I found her at OSU, she cares very much about me and my CVS condition. Takes time to answer all of my questions and concerns. wish I would have found her 5 years ago. Just today a nurse from her office called me to inform me that Dr. V. had been working with my insurance provider to get me a new medication. I'm so grateful to her and her staff for helping me deal with insurance obstacles. Additionally, her office staff and Dr. V. are always quick to reply to MyChart questions.
