My focus is on sports medicine. My goal, in collaboration with colleagues from physical therapy and athletic training, is to help keep patients active across their lifespan. In sports medicine, I have the opportunity to not only practice treatment, but also prevent injuries through the use of exercise and other wellness activities.

My clinical interests include muscle/tendon injuries, osteoarthritis, concussion, endurance athletics and evidence-based medicine. I direct a National Institutes of Health-funded lab to study muscle inflammation and repair, as well as the role of the quadriceps in the management of osteoarthritis of the knee. We are particularly interested in the role of massage in recovery of skeletal muscle from intense exercise.

I am also an active member of the Spine Research Institute and Sport Health and Performance Institute. Both institutes are dedicated to understanding the cause of injuries and to promoting health and wellness.

What I enjoy about working at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is the opportunity to do so many things and to collaborate with so many disciplines. I enjoy being involved in patient care, teaching and research.

In my spare time, I enjoy relaxing with my family, traveling and staying physically fit through running and triathlons. I also serve as the team physician for Columbus’s professional dance troupe, BalletMet.

I also hold the following academic titles:
Professor of Family Medicine
Pomerene Chair of Primary Care
Vice Chair for Academic Affairs
