About Me
As a neurosurgeon and spine oncologist, I specialize in the resection of primary and metastatic tumors of the vertebral column, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system. I obtained my medical degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine and completed my neurosurgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic, where I also completed a combined orthopedic/neurosurgery fellowship in complex spine and deformity. I then completed a second fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in neurosurgical (spine) oncology.
My areas of focus and expertise include primary and metastatic malignant spine tumors, benign spine tumors (schwannoma, meningioma, neurofibroma), intramedullary spinal cord tumors (ependymoma, astrocytoma), benign and malignant primary bone tumors, chordomas and chondrosarcomas of the spine and sacrum, paraspinal tumors, and peripheral nerve tumors.
I am passionate about continuing to expand the spine oncology program here at the OSUCCC – James with the goal of becoming the top destination for complex oncologic care. It is a privilege to collaborate with such a committed and multidisciplinary team with expertise from radiation oncology, interventional radiology, medical oncology, palliative care and psychiatry. Everyone at The James provides cutting-edge patient care while also maintaining a compassionate, supportive environment that empowers patients to continue living life with a positive attitude. I find great satisfaction in finding avenues to improve quality of life no matter the circumstances.?

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Chakravarthy has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
