BlackSylvesterCOLUMBUS, Ohio – Dr. Sylvester Black has joined The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Division of Transplant Surgery. Black specializes in abdominal transplantation, liver surgery and the treatment of patients with cancer of the liver and biliary system.

Prior to coming to Ohio State, Black was an abdominal transplantation and liver and pancreas surgery fellow at the University of Toronto, one of the highest volume liver transplant centers in North America. He also served as the administrative chief resident of surgery at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Robert Higgins, director of Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Transplant Center, said Black is a highly regarded physician and researcher.

“The medical center and our patients will benefit greatly from the skills that Sylvester brings to our program,” said Higgins.

Black also is a specialist in living donor liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. His clinical interests are bile duct injuries and malignancies.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia and his medical training at Northwestern University. He also has a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Minnesota.
